Our ancestors were great adventurers. They left their home, a place they love, their motherland, all in the hopes of making a better living for their family. Leaving home is never easy, and not knowing if they will ever return made things even harder. Travelling thousands of miles down Southeast Asia, they had to start fresh in a new environment, and constantly try to adapt to the unfamiliar, this made them yearn the sense of belongingness. Culture gives us a sense of belonging, it fuels our ancestors with warmth, and reinstates their identity. Thus, associations of different surnames and native clans were established to create a community they are familiar with, for mutual aid, and protection. Most importantly, these associations were built to remind them of their roots, no matter where they are.
Times have changed. The reason people choose to join these associations is now different, they are no longer in need of aid. To keep up with time, change is inevitable. The roles these associations play has gradually shifted but the one thing that remained constant throughout time was the function of these associations – for cultural, business, and social purposes. As time passes and a new generation of Malaysian Chinese is born, these associations are slowly losing their purpose.
Rich in culture, tradition, and Chinese values, these associations are a gem too good to be lost in time. Fairy Park Group believes that it is vital to preserve what these associations have to offer, for our future generation. To support the development and welfare of these associations, Ancestral Hall Street was conceived. Ensuring each Ancestral Hall is self-sustainable, a portion of the profits made will be channelled back to their respective halls.

Ancestral Hall Street is a unique project that embodies strong cultural identities. Partnering with various associations of different surnames, native clans, and ancestral homes, a total of 32 Ancestral Halls was built to pay homage to the various surnames our ancestors have passed down. Each Ancestral Hall is three storeys high, and elements of Chinese architecture are notable on the exterior. The first level of every Ancestral Hall consists of a shrine where the community is able to pay respects to ancestors with the same surname and ancestral homes. To ensure that the community stays together throughout time, a total of 2500 columbarium niche is made available within an Ancestral Hall.
Upon entering an Ancestral Hall, a cultural corner welcomes you. This unique corner showcases the history of their respective associations, each surname’s place of origin, background, history, spirit, ancestral hall name, and more. For our future generation, this is a valuable space that enables them to trace, learn, and understand the cultures of their ancestral home. Each Ancestral Hall will also have a dedicated space for networking – to help strengthen the ties within the Chinese community, preserve, and promote ancestral culture.
